Work out your money
Empowering people to be great with money
What is ‘Work Out Your Money’?
Welcome to the Work Out Your Money project! Launched in 2014 by Citizens Advice Havant, this initiative aims to transform how our community views and interacts with money. Too often, individuals come to us only when financial issues have spiraled out of control, leading to a lot of stress. Our goal is to change this narrative, empowering people to manage their finances more effectively before challenges arise.
We’re thrilled to be expanding this initiative to Hart, where a dedicated team of Work Out Your Money mentors and volunteers, will host engaging workshops focused on building essential money skills in our communities and schools.
Why do we need financial education?
There is an ever growing need for financial education. Research by Go Henry showed that 84% of children and teenagers would like to have more financial education in school and over 40% of primary school children are already worried about leaving school without any money skills.
In addition, a Financial Times article highlights that only 1% of UK primary school teachers think pupils have ‘adequate’ financial literacy.
These numbers reiterate what MyBnk’s research with Compare the Market showed, that 2/5 of young people leave secondary education without feeling like they have enough financial education.
Since 2014, the Schools Financial Capability Programme has successfully reached over 8,000 students across Hampshire, earning accolades like the Quality Mark from Young Money and Young Enterprise. We believe that providing this knowledge early, we can significantly decrease the risk of debt and improve financial well being throughout our community.
