Money Chat Workshops Bring Financial Confidence to Local  Communities

A series of three ‘Money Chats’ workshops has brought practical financial advice, scam awareness and plenty of fun to community groups across the area over recent weeks.

The first session took place on 22nd September at The Signals retirement complex in Hook, where residents explored energy saving tips, Blue Badge applications, Attendance Allowance and scam awareness. The Scam or No Scam game sparked conversation, laughter and some friendly competition. Group leader Julie praised the team’s warm and engaging approach, saying she was confident that the advice and handouts “will be remembered and be of great use to everyone.”

On 4th November, the team delivered its largest workshop yet for the Hartley Wintney Voluntary Care Group, with around 50 members and volunteers. Picture activities ensured accessibility for all, and several participants booked one to one follow up sessions for additional support. Group leader Chris described it as “an excellent session.”

A workshop, run jointly with Citizens Advice Rushmoor on 6th November, brought money skills to young carers aged 15–18. The relaxed evening mixed practical learning with quizzes, a Scam or No Scam gameshow, plus pizza and birthday cake. The group said they enjoyed “figuring out scams” and left knowing “where to go for help.”

Across all three events, the workshops showcased the impact of approachable, tailored financial education. By blending expert guidance with interactive activities, the Money Chats sessions helped older residents, carers and young people build confidence in managing money and spotting scams, leaving each group informed, empowered and supported.
