PIP stands for, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and you may be eligible for this payment if you need extra help because of an illness, disability or mental health condition. You can make a PIP claim whether or not you get help from anyone.
You don’t need to have worked or paid National Insurance to qualify for PIP, and it doesn’t matter what your income is, if you have any savings or if you’re working.
What’s changed?
On 18 March 2025, the government announced there will be changes to the rules for claiming PIP in 2026. These changes mean fewer people will get the payment. If you’re thinking of applying for PIP, you should do it soon because you’ re more likely to get PIP if you apply before the rules change.
