We are seeking a business or public service professional, currently working or retired, looking for an interesting and rewarding challenge.
Citizens Advice Hart is a member of national Citizens Advice providing free, independent, impartial and confidential advice on a wide range of issues to the local community. We do so through a team of trained volunteers supported by a management team operating from offices in Fleet.
The role of the Chair is to provide leadership for the Trustee Board, ensuring that decisions are made within the remit of the governing document and the policies of Citizens Advice.
Key responsibilities:
Planning the annual cycle of Board meetings and compiling agendas with the Secretary and CEO.
Ensuring that the Board has a diverse range of skills, experience and knowledge needed to operate effectively.
Ensuring that the Board reviews its own work and how effectively it operates, taking any corrective action required.
- Reviewing the work of Citizens Advice Hart.
- Liaising with the CEO to keep an overview of the charity’s business.
- In conjunction with the Treasurer, ensuring proper management and control of finances.
- Representing Citizens Advice Hart in the community and at public events
- Representing Citizens Advice Hart in relationships with funders.
Key Tasks:
- Ensuring that Board decisions are made within the remit of the governing document and the policies of Citizens Advice
- Planning the agenda for meetings with the Secretary and CEO.
- Providing or arranging for support and supervision for the CEO, including annual appraisal
- Monitoring the calibre, level of commitment and attendance of all Trustees.
- Ensuring that the Board seeks the views of all sections of the community served by Citizens Advice Hart.
You should have a mature, objective and non-judgemental attitude with the ability to think creatively. Significant experience at board level and excellent networking and public speaking skills would be valuable. Empathy with the types of issues faced by Citizens Advice Hart’s clients is also important. The role is voluntary. Board meetings are held 8 times a year, usually in the late afternoon/evening in the Fleet office.

How we will use your information
The information you give us on this form will be used to help us decide whether to recruit you as a volunteer – this is our ‘legitimate interest’ under data protection law. It will only be seen by staff involved in the recruitment process, and will be stored securely. We will retain unsuccessful application forms for up to 1 year from the date the application form was received.
If you are recruited we will retain your contact information in order to involve and support you. We will also collect additional information, such as next of kin details, and over time records of training, support meetings and where relevant, appraisals. Again, it will be kept securely, and only those people who need to see your information in order to involve you will have access to it.
All use of volunteer information will be relevant to their involvement, and may include;
- Contacting volunteers when necessary
- Making changes to role, support or equipment to improve accessibility
- Monitoring statistical details of our volunteers
- Providing ongoing support to volunteers
- Monitoring the quality of advice given to clients
- Addressing the problems or complaints
