A Day in the Life of a Debt Advisor at Citizens Advice Hart

As a debt advisor, Kirsty has seen it all.  From the stress of credit card debt to the devastating impact of benefit delays. With her expertise and compassion, Kirsty is ready to listen, advise, and support her clients to take control of their finances and build a brighter financial future.

Here, Kirsty shares a typical day at Citizens Advice Hart…
As I arrive at the Citizens Advice Hart office I settle into my desk and begin to review my schedule for the day. Today, I have three client meetings lined up, each one presenting a unique set of challenges and opportunities to make a positive impact.

After checking my emails and responding to any urgent messages, I take a few minutes to review the files for my first meeting. I take pride in being well prepared, knowing that every piece of information I gather will help me better understand my client’s situation and provide individually tailored advice. Every client I work with is treated as a unique individual, with a holistic approach to their financial circumstances. My goal is to ensure that each person receives the most suitable options for managing their finances. Additionally, we strive to eliminate the stigma surrounding financial education and debt, fostering a more open and supportive environment.

Throughout the day, I meet with clients who are struggling with all types of financial issues including debts, from overdue bills and credit card balances to mortgages and loans. I listen attentively as they share their stories, offering guidance and support as we work together to create a plan to get back on track.

I love my job because I get to see the positive impact I can have on people’s lives. Helping someone find a way out of debt can be incredibly rewarding and it’s a privilege to be part of that process.

As I wrap up my final meeting of the day, I reflect on the sense of fulfilment that comes with making a difference in my community. It’s not just about giving advice, it’s about empowering people to take control of their finances and build a brighter future.

If you’re struggling with debt or know someone who is, don’t hesitate to reach out to Citizens Advice Hart.
