Championing Charity: A Way Forward

We had a fantastic turnout at our recent ‘Championing Charity’ event, connecting with our amazing supporters and funders, as well as meeting with new people from our local community. Our CEO, Sam Mabbott captured the spirit of the evening saying, “The key message that ‘we are a charity’ was well and truly appreciated. There was a palpable sense of desire to help in the room.”

A huge thank you to all our speakers who shared their insights and passion. Our Community Training Lead, Marcia Slack, introduced our Work Out Your Money financial education in schools initiative which created a real buzz of interest in the room.

Among the guests were local MPs Alex Baker and Alex Brewer, who further underscored the event’s importance. Their presence highlighted the critical role that local government plays in fostering community support and engagement for charitable initiatives.

Alex Brewer, MP shared her thanks on social media saying,“CEO Sam Mabbott highlighted that many people don’t realise they are a charity that needs funding. And with increasing demands on their service where would we be without them?”  The event is testament to the strength of our local community and its commitment to supporting charitable efforts.

The difference we can make and the impact we have on people’s lives is highlighted in our impact report.  Read our full 2023-2024 report for more information.

Our charity is dedicated to supporting individuals with housing concerns, employment challenges, financial worries and those in crisis, offering free, confidential, independent and impartial advice. We believe that no one should be turned away when they seek help and with that, we have helped clients with over 8000 issues within the past year. To be able to continue this work and as we have no statutory government funding, we need the support of our local community.
