Could you be paying too much for your energy? We’ve teamed up with WattsWatt to help

Working out whether you’re on the right energy tariff can feel overwhelming. There are lots of options, the jargon is confusing and many people worry about making the wrong choice. So they stay where they are, even when it might be costing them more than it needs to.

To help, we have started working with WattsWatt, a social enterprise that offers a free, impartial and independent online energy service.

What is WattsWatt?

WattsWatt helps households to:

  • understand how much energy they use
  • explore the tariffs across the market that best match their circumstances
  • check whether they might be eligible for grants and government support schemes

WattsWatt talks about unlocking ‘heat hours’. That means the extra warmth a household could afford by moving to the best value tariff for them.

How much could Hart households save?

WattsWatt estimates that around seven in 10 households in Hart District are on the standard variable tariff, which is set by the price cap. On average, these households could cut unnecessary overpayment on their energy bills by £165 a year.

How we can help

Our advisers can now use WattsWatt during advice sessions where it’s useful, alongside our usual energy and cost of living advice. If you’re not confident using online tools, a member of our team can go through it with you. We stay fully impartial. We won’t recommend a particular supplier or tariff and we’ll help you understand your options so you can choose what’s right for you.

Samantha Mabbott, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice Hart, said:

“Every day we see the real life impact of people struggling to afford to heat their homes. Many households are overwhelmed by the complexity of the energy market and fearful of making the wrong decision.

“Partnering with WattsWatt gives our advisers an additional tool to support residents in understanding their options, alongside our existing, impartial advice. This is about helping people feel more confident when navigating a complicated system and ensuring support is accessible to those who need it most.”

Lisa Malyon, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of WattsWatt, said:

“Navigating energy tariffs can be confusing, and the consequences of being on the wrong tariff can affect household budgets, health and wellbeing.

“Citizens Advice Hart is a trusted local organisation supporting people at the point they most need help. By working together, we make it easier for households to understand their energy use, access available support schemes, and make informed choices that work for their circumstances.”
